Peter
Edwards was born and raised on Queensland’s Gold Coast, where he
enjoyed many years of successful sporting activities.
He
was an Australian roller skating champion and became the youngest
Artistic Roller-skating Judge for the Australian Federation of Amateur
Roller Skating, winning the prestigious ‘Teacher’s
Cup’ in 1973 for his contribution to Judging.
In
addition, he was the Australian Tae Kwon Do champion, represented his
region in schoolboy football and was a Grand Final winner. In his final
year at school he was named his school’s ‘Athletic
Champion’.
All
his dreams of competing in the World Roller Skating Titles, and of a
future sporting career, came to an abrupt halt on 24 May, 1975 when a
surfing accident caused such serious injury to his neck and back that
specialists said he might never play sport again.
He
sought advice from various medical and health care professionals but
found little help for his condition. Severe and constant pain,
and increasing stiffness, became his lot. For the first time in his
life, he experienced the bitter taste of depression and desperation.
A
referral to a naturopath was to be the turning point of his life.
By changing his diet, the Naturopath was able to clear up the cystic
acne from which he had suffered for the previous four years. He
had been on strong antibiotics and had undergone surgery on his face
during this time. Peter then learnt how it was possible to help
himself and it was then that he experienced what he called ‘a
moment of truth’. He not only realised the benefits of
natural healthcare, but that the body can heal itself when given the
chance.
In
1976 Peter chose to study naturopathy, not realising this would change
his life and take him on a 12 year course of study to complete.
In this same year he commenced work as a Naturopathic assistant for Dr
Tony Holt DC, ND, D.Ac., the practitioner who recommended him to study
to become a naturopath. During this time, he graduated as a
Remedial Massage Therapist in 1978 and commenced full time practice as
a Natural Therapist.
He
studied a postgraduate course in ‘Physical Culture and Human
Performance’ and in 1984 graduated with a Diploma as a Lifestyle
Consultant. In the same year he gained his Bachelor of Massage
Therapy. In 1985 he gained a postgraduate Diploma of Nutritional
Science and followed that with a certificate of ‘Medical
Acupuncture’ in 1986. I In 1988 saw the completion of his
Diplomas 1 & 2 of Opthalmotropic Phenomena (Eye Diagnosis) and
finally his Diploma of Naturopathy.
Peter’s
diploma in Naturopathy (ND) came from Health Schools Australia. A
Bachelor of Applied Science (Naturopathy and Traditional Medicine) was
attained in 1992. This qualification came from one of the first
naturopathic colleges recognised by the Australian Government, The Gold
Coast Academy of Natural Therapies, now operated by the Queensland
Government as TAFE.
Peter
practiced as a Naturopath specialising in the areas he himself had
suffered and overcome. In that time, Peter has continued his
research and pursuit of knowledge. Since 1989, Peter has been in
great demand to lecture at naturopathic colleges.
Peter
was again tested when he fell down a cliff in 1992 and crushed six
intervertebral discs, causing serious damage and restriction to his
movement and life again. Once more, through applying the same
principles of good nutrition and corrective exercises to decompress his
spine, he completely restored his back and body, not only to health but
also to a new state of vitality.
As
a result of his self-made improvement, Peter wrote his first book
entitled ‘Back Magic’. Realising the nutritional and
chemical side of the story should also be told, the book was subdivided
and ‘Vitality Has No Age’ was also generated. From
there the books multiplied into a complete Health Care Series.
As
if his past health problems were not enough, Peter was yet again given
the ultimate challenge and learning experience. Through not
knowing how to deal correctly with recurring stress, he developed a
bowel condition, which doctors advised would require imminent
surgery. This almost caused him to give up his work.
Frankly, he began to doubt his own advice that ‘you should teach
what you live and live what you teach’.
Life
had reached the point where he had to make an all-out effort and get
results from his own health, or have the operation and perhaps give up
his work, his plans for travelling and teaching people how to help
themselves. How could he do that when he couldn’t even help
himself? The desire to share his knowledge and all the books he
had commenced writing just sat dormant in his computer for almost two
years.
A fit body is not a happy place to live
when there is no peace of mind.
During
this time Peter almost lost his ‘peace of mind’. He
learnt about anxiety and panic attacks through firsthand
experience. Through this he realised the necessity for
‘peace of mind’ and the governing effect the mind has on
the health of the body.
He
realised he had to be the one to change the course of his future and
that no one else could do it for him. He had done all he could
about treating his bowel condition but that was still not the
answer. Something was missing. At that moment of
desperation he called on a source greater than himself, as never before
and reached into the deep reservoir of knowledge and experience he had
already gained. As he searched, he repeatedly recalled how, when
at his very lowest ebb after his first accident, he had found
meditation to be of significant help.
Using
his mind to help his body made all the difference. The body is the
servant of the mind and where the mind leads the body will follow. That
was the key to his healing and the missing link in his quest for
understanding his body and how he could effectively help himself. This
insight and appreciation underpinned his training and observations.
The
importance of the mind, how we think and what we think, is an essential
part of wise self-care that must not be overlooked or
underestimated. Our state of mind has a governing influence in
determining not only our functional health and the appearance of our
body but also the quality of life we ultimately enjoy.
Peter
soon realised God had not cursed him as he had begun to think. He
had cursed himself by his way of thinking and not controlling his mind
and thoughts. Through not dealing with his stress correctly, he
had allowed negative emotions to develop a physical condition in his
bowel. That was why all the best food and exercise in the world
could not correct the condition. Much of the problem was coming
from his head. It was not what he was eating but what was eating
him!
The need for a check-up from the neck up
Once
he understood this and learned how to use his mind in a positive way,
there were no more panic attacks, anxiety, guilt or fear. No
fear! And his bowels worked properly too! Finally, he was set
free from the bondage he had created for himself, simply because he
didn’t know how to control his mind or how to use it
correctly. As a result, Peter now had another book to write and
add to his Health Care Series.
Honors in ‘Mind / Body Therapy’
Having
gained Honors in Humanistic Psychology and Psychoanalysis, Peter
introduced ‘Mental Wellness’ into his practice and included
professional counseling in the modalities he used. This was another key
to his learning as it allowed him to ‘unlock’ causes of
disease. People were creating them by the way they were thinking.
Peter created a technique he named ‘Psycho Massage’ where
actual areas of suppressed emotional stress held in the body can be
accessed and released through using this ‘mind/body
therapy’.
Another personal crisis to learn from
You
would think he had had enough but the universal school of learning
wasn’t through with this student yet! Peter had another accident
where he seriously injured his back ‘again’. Over the
period of one year he was completely immobilized. He was forced to
discontinue conducting his very popular 5-day ‘Rejuvenation
Retreats’ and had to resort to having regular Chiropractic work,
Osteopathic work and Remedial Massage therapy just to find relief.
Realising he had to achieve ‘lasting results’ not just
‘relief and maintenance’ style treatment, Peter once again
focused his attention of helping himself through this personal crisis
and ‘finding a lasting solution’. Once again – he
did! He rediscovered the immense value of ‘Gravity
Traction’ for re-aligning and decompression of the spine. Within
weeks he was on the road to recovery and needing no more spinal
treatments.
Saved from bowel surgery by discovering the ‘Internal Bath’
The
following year, exactly ten years after overcoming the serious bowel
condition, through over-work and lack of personal attention, a large
lump developed in his abdominal area. Surgery on the colon was again
recommended. This personal crisis led to Peter to discover and fully
develop ‘The Internal Bath’, a method of safely and
effectively cleansing the colon. Through this, he was able to remove
the large lump from his abdomen and also the need for surgery.
Peter’s ‘Internal Bath’ has proven to be one of the
greatest discoveries of his career. What Peter learnt from all these
experiences was this:
People can be empowered to help themselves when they know what to do.
There
is no need for fanatical exercise programs, rigid diets and attitudes
of mind or expensive medicines and treatments! We need to develop
for ourselves, a balanced lifestyle and understand that there is no
miracle cure or magic potions.
Good health and vitality is created by the way we choose to live.
Health
care professionals will always be needed but in most cases the best
physician we will ever have is ourselves. This means taking full
responsibility for our own health and future. Peter has developed
a philosophy of living that is ‘personally empowering’ and
this is what he shares now with you. It is a style of living he now
calls ‘Vitality Living’. And here it is:

The Vitality Living Health Series Let your lifestyle be your medicine
|
Our
personal wealth (be it material or personal) and quality of life is
created by the way we choose to live and think. Wealth is not
what we have, it’s what we are. Health, happiness, success
and peace are a matter of choice, not chance. This good news is
for everyone - we can help ourselves when we know what to do!
The incredible body you live in.
Your
body is very resilient, adaptive and responsive. It is a
self-regulating, self-adjusting and, where possible, a self-healing
organism. Give it the right conditions and it will do this
efficiently and naturally. In the genetic code, it has the
blueprint, not only for self-healing but also self-restoration and to
an extent, rejuvenation. In short, your body is just waiting for
you to give it the care and opportunity it needs to show you what it
can do. This is really something to think about!
You
can revitalise and to a large extent, rejuvenate your mind and
body. You too can set yourself free from the bondage of physical
and mental fatigue, suffering, devitalisation and disease.
It’s no longer just survival of the fittest, now it’s
survival of the wisest. The time to ‘fix your future’
is now! It’s no longer what others can do for you but what
you can do for yourself!
This
is the message Peter now takes to the world with the power and
conviction of his personal experiences. He is living testimony to
the principles he now shares with others. Peter has conducted a
very busy naturopathic practice for over two decades and has been a
lecturer in naturopathic schools since 1989 in the fields of
‘naturopathic prescribing, philosophy and iridology’.
Throughout Australia and internationally, Peter shares the theme,
‘Let your lifestyle be your medicine’, and promotes
lifestyle education as not only the best form of prevention of disease
and premature aging, but also the single best cure. His
philosophy is ‘maxi-ed, mini-med’ (maximum education,
minimum medication). He is the author of twelve books and many
CD’s and DVD’s on lifestyle education. His DVD
‘Iridology Simplified’ is widely used throughout Australia
by public libraries and colleges.
Peter has been recognised internationally for his books in health education
Peter’s
books became theses which he presented to the world. They contained the
discoveries he made when completely rehabilitating his own body
following two serious spinal injuries, as well as the results of
working with thousands of patients, demonstrating the positive
physiological influence of corrective exercise and sound nutrition on
physical rejuvenation.
Peter
has presented his clinical findings confirming conclusively that
‘Lifestyle education is not only the most powerful form of
preventative medicine, it is also the single best cure!’
His work was supported with many case histories and testimonials from
people who had literally transformed their lives following years of
chronic disease. Many with so-called ‘incurable
conditions’ were now completely recovered. This work also
included extensive research in the science and practice of Iridology.
Naturopath of the Year Award in 1999
Peter
was honoured by the Queensland Naturopathic Association and received
their ‘Excellence in Naturopathy Award’ for
‘Outstanding Contribution to Naturopathic Practice’ in
recognition of the educational work he has produced.
Doctor of Literature Award
In
2001 Peter was honoured by The Open International University, receiving
a Doctor of Literature, Honoris Causa, for his publications in the
field of bibliotherapy.
Gold Medal of Excellence Award

In
the same year Peter was again honoured with ‘The Gold Medal of
Excellence’ from Medicina Alternativa for his educational work
and invited to have his name included in the elite register of
‘The Fellowship of Royal Complementary Practitioners’
(F.R.C.P.).
For
two years, from January 2000, Peter enjoyed, with his wife Patricia, his
‘twenty year sabbatical’, travelling, doing further
research and study, writing and lecturing throughout Australia and
internationally. During this time, Peter was the first non-medical
health practitioner to be invited into Aboriginal land to stay among
the Yolnu people of Arnhem Land and offer health services.

In
November 2001, Peter delivered an address sharing the medical
breakthroughs he had achieved using a minimum of medicines to over
three hundred medical and integrated medicine practitioners at a
‘World Congress of Unified Medicines’ sharing highlights of
his research and findings over the past ten years. His work was
received very well, to the extent he was invited to speak in four
countries and asked to be a ‘VIP’ speaker for the
university. In 2002 The Open International University Senate, in
concurrence with the Department of Education & Academic Affairs,
appointed Peter as a Visiting Professor within the University Academic
System.
Knighthood

In light of his contribution and service in the area of health, the
university recommended Peter for Knighthood, that same year, to which
he accepted. Peter was formally Knighted, a Knight of the Order
of St. John of Jerusalem; known as a ‘Knight of
Malta’. This event happened in Australia on the 27th of
July 2002, when the presentation of the annual ‘Award of
Laureateship’ of the ‘Albert Schweitzer Foundation’
was awarded for his excellent and humanitarian lifetime of service to
mankind. More than 200 delegates representing over seventy
countries attended this event. Peter was honoured to be the
‘theme speaker’ at this historic event, presenting his
address entitled: ‘Medical Breakthroughs Using Less
Medicines’.
Peter
was invited onto the international Professional Speakers Circuit and
has shared his life-changing insights, philosophies and seminars around
the world with thousands of people.
These
days Peter operates his clinical practice two days per week and
operates his Rejuvenation Spa at certain months of the year. Most of
the other time, Peter is found in his garden with his best mate and
wife, Patricia.
